JKRowlingWe know Harry Potter has a huge collection of hardcore fans, but luckily for author JK Rowling, her iconic books also attract some very rich readers too.

This was apparent yesterday when a rare first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, featuring illustrations and notes from Rowling herself, fetched a whopping £150,000 at auction.

‘The sale room fell silent as two determined bidders vied for the prized edition,’ said a spokesperson for Sotheby’s in London.

‘Bidding leapt in increments of up to £25,000 and the hammer finally fell, to a round of applause, on a £150,000 telephone bid.’

Ooh, it’s like a soap opera!
