Tasting some of the finest food in the world may look like a dream job for most of us, but Masterchef host Gregg Wallace would prefer to be getting muddy on a rugby pitch with a whistle in his mouth.
Gregg, 47, used to coach rugby to kids but had to give it up when his TV career took off. ‘I really miss it and I’d like to take it up again when I retire,’ he tells Woman’s Own.
‘I’d love to take a team of boys right from five years old all the way through to senior level. I’d buy the kits, coach them, buy a van and take them around playing games against local schools. I want to build a legacy.’
Rugby, it seems, is in the Wallace blood with Gregg’s 17-year-old son, Tom also a keen player.
‘He’s usually the smallest lad on the pitch and, like a lot of rugby players, he’s softly spoken,’ Gregg explains. ‘But he’s absolutely ferocious and hard as nails!’
