The series could have looked very different!
The TV BAFTAs has just taken place, and of course, the brilliant series Happy Valley scooped a row of gongs at the prestigious event.
Sarah Lancashire won the much-coveted prize for Leading Actress, while the drama itself won the BAFTA for Best Drama, beating the likes of The Crown for the award.
Happy Valley stars Sarah Lancashire as troubled police officer Catherine Cawood, who tragically lost her daughter to the hands of notorious local bad boy, Tommy Lee Royce, played brilliantly by James Norton.
The last season of the BBC show ended with a tense finale, and some seriously unfinished business.
Sadly, we’re going to have to wait another year for answers, as it’s looking likely that Sally won’t be penning another series until 2018.
Sarah herself has spoken out about how keen she is to begin filming the new series – but admits that Sally’s busy schedule is holding up production.
The actress said, “It’s been a pretty long time now. I know she wants to do a third series but she’s so busy writing other stuff we’re kind of in a queue. When she feels the time is right, we will do a third. Which I am looking forward to. I am ready to play her again.”
Like us, you probably can’t imagine Happy Valley without Sarah Lancashire. After all, what would Calder Valley be without Police Sergeant Catherine?
So you’ll be terrified to realise that the actress also quit four weeks into filming the show! She admitted, “For the first four weeks I kept telling them, I am wrong for this role.
“I couldn’t find a way to feel comfortable. I didn’t feel comfortable with the uniform.
“I thought I’d just be an actor in a uniform. I was worried about the accent. I was scared the accent was coming across as too broad. But they told me to trust them and I did.”
So, although we don’t know much about the third series yet, we can offer you an idea of what it will bring for Catherine. Sally has teased fans with the idea that Season Three will offer much more of an insight into the disturbed mind of killer Tommy Lee Royce.
