Dawn FrenchWe last saw her on screen as herself on Superstar over the summer, but Dawn French will be heading back to television to appear in Great British Bake Off presenter Sue Perkins’ new sitcom.

The show, titled Heading Out and on BBC2 early next year, is about vet Sara (Sue Perkins) who is set an ultimatum by her friends to tell her parents she’s gay as her 40th birthday approaches. And it must be pretty funny – as well as attracting comedic talent like Dawn, Joanna Scanlan (The Thick of It), and Steve Pemberton (The League of Gentlemen) EastEnders’ legend June Brown, and, of course, Sue’s GBBO co-host Mel Giedroyc will make an appearance.

‘This might well be the thing that I’m most proud of,’ says Sue. ‘It’s been a joy to work on, and I hope that joy proves to be infectious.’

We can’t wait to see how many cake-based puns she’s got in the script… oh wait, wrong show!
