We weren't expecting this...

David and Victoria Beckham have seen their fair share of ups and downs during their marriage of almost 18 years. And now the former footballer has revealed that despite setbacks in their relationship the A-list pair are united by love, rather than a desire to maintain brand Beckham.

As he helped Radio 4 mark the 75th anniversary of Desert Island discs the 41-year-old said:

“Do we stay together because it’s a brand? Of course not. We stay together because we love each other, “

The dad-of-four also gushed about family life, and explained how Romeo, Brooklyn, Cruz and Harper also help to cement the couple’s union.

“We stay together because we have four amazing children. Of course we go through tough times. When we go through tough times, we work through it as a unit, as a family.”

In a frank confession the business mogul and model also admitted to his past ‘mistakes’ and explained how he and Victoria work through them together.

“You make mistakes over the years, we all know marriage is difficult at time and it’s about working through it. Whenever we’ve come up against tough times, we know each other better than anybody knows us, so we talk.”

Becks also described the moment that helped to seal the couple’s bond amidst some turbulent times. And it was none other than a wedding vow renewal that seemingly slipped under the press radar!

“It was a lot more private,” he revealed. “There was about six people there in our house.”
