10th January 2016 – Tom Hiddleston’s Golden apology

Tom Hiddleston’s speech at the Golden Globes was…interesting. While Meryl Streep divided the masses with her impassioned acceptance speech, and Ryan Gosling melted hearts (as per) with his touching tribute to his wife, Tom’s speech left the Golden Globes guests and the general public confused.

After a rambling attempt to tell the room a story, it seemed that by the end of his speech even Tom had forgotten the point of his tale. What had been intended as a tribute to UNICEF, Médecins Sans Frontières and the World Food Program left the room full of stars cold.

Needless to say, thousands watching the ceremony at home picked up on the incredibly awkward affair.

Finally, even Tom Hiddleston had to admit that his speech was far from perfect. The award winning ‘Night Manager’ star took to social media to apologise.

Tom said he ‘completely agreed’ with the criticism of his speech. Admitting to being ‘very nervous’ at the event, he wrote, “my words just came out wrong”. The actor then goes on to highlight the good work done by the organisations he originally tried to pay tribute to during his speech:

I just wanted to say… I completely agree that my speech at the Golden Globes last night was inelegantly expressed. In truth, I was very nervous, and my words just came out wrong. Sincerely, my only intention was to salute the incredible bravery and courage of the men and women who work so tirelessly for UNICEF UKDoctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and World Food Programme, and the children of South Sudan, who continue to find hope and joy in the most difficult conditions. I apologise that my nerves got the better of me.

Good on you Tom! And for what it’s worth, we’d be pretty nervous standing up in front of a room full of A-listers at the Golden Globes too!
